On June 15, UCASS held a conference at the Lecture Hall of CASS for the renaming and reorganization of the School of International Politics and Economics, School of Sociology and Ethnology, School of Chinese Language and Literature, School of Philosophy, School of History and School of Government.

Gao Peiyong, the Vice President of CASS and Secretary of UCASS Party Committee, presented the flags to the School of International Politics and Economics and School of Sociology and Ethnology, along with opening remarks. The conference was also attended and addressed by Li Peilin, Member of the NPC Standing Committee, Deputy Chairman of the NPC Social Development Affairs Committee, Member of CASS and Director of the Academic Division of Social, Political and Legal Studies; Xu Qingsen, Director General of Department of Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education; and Zhu Xinkai, Vice President of Renmin University of China. Leaders of administrative and affiliated institutions of CASS, leaders of UCASS and its schools and departments, as well as faculty members and students of relevant schools were present in the conference in person, along with broader attendance online. The conference was chaired by Wang Xinqing, the Vice President of UCASS and President of GSCASS.

With the approval of CASS, UCASS has decided to further integrate its 14 GSCASS departments and disciplines that were not included in the first-round integration into the School of International Relations, School of Sociology, School of Philosophy, School of Chinese Language and Literature, School of History and School of Government respectively according to classification and relevance of disciplines. Consequentially the 6 schools are reorganized and renamed as the School of International Politics and Economics, School of Sociology and Ethnology, School of Chinese Language and Literature, School of Philosophy, School of History and School of Government. It is an effort to further deepen the reform of research and education integration, so as to develop top-rated disciplines by combining the strengths of various schools, departments, and faculties, and improve its national education and talent cultivation system with distinctive CASS characteristics.

Zhang Yuyan, Dean of the School of International Politics and Economics, Zhang Zhiqiang, Vice Dean of the School of Philosophy, Chen Guangjin, Dean of the School of Sociology and Ethnology and Zheng Bojiang, Dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature, introduced their efforts made on integration and discipline development as the representatives of the reorganized schools.

In his concluding remarks, Gao Peiyong pointed out that this year marks the fifth anniversary of the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. According to the decision of the CPC Central Committee, the university, affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was established in the context of accelerated development of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics. The most fundamental, prominent, profound, and enduring feature of UCASS is the pursuit of the integration of research and education. The newly reorganized and renamed six schools have taken the endeavors of UCASS to a new height. Further down the path, the restructuring of disciplines and schools will gain tremendous momentum in a similar manner as nuclear fusion, to boost discipline development, talent cultivation and academic progress. UCASS will surely find its path towards a top-rated university for social sciences featuring socialism with Chinese characteristics.
